In 1921 Torrance became an incorporated city in Los Angeles County, just a short nine years after its founding in 1912. Located right on the coast, and sharing a border with Los Angeles, Gardena, and Palos Verdes, Torrance has a temperate climate year-round, with low humidity and only 12.55 inches of rain per year. Much of the industry in the city revolves around agriculture, manufacturing and petroleum. The city began to grow by leaps and bounds after the Second World War, and new housing developments were built in the 50’s and 60’s to accommodate the influx. During the recessions in the 1970’s and 2000’s, Torrance experienced citywide deindustrialization and economic downturn, but has remained strong, and culturally diverse.
Torrance is home to several parks and landmarks, including: Wilson Park, Madrona Marsh Wildlife Preserve, and Torrance Beach Park on the Pacific Ocean. The Armed Forces Parade has been running down Torrance Boulevard every year since 1960, and is known as the “longest running military parade sponsored by a city.” One of the largest malls in the United States calls Torrance home, Del Amo Fashion Center is a huge 2.5 million square feet of retail space, and is still growing to this day.
Two major Japanese car makers have their headquarters in Torrance, Toyota and Honda, as does Robinson Helicopters, Honeywell, King’s Hawaiian Bakery, and Mitsuwa Marketplace. There is also an ExxonMobile Refinery located at the northern edge of the city, which produces the majority of Southern California’s gasoline. With all of the industry, traffic, and pollution in the city, health concerns can be expected.
As with any coastal city, Torrance is subject to foggy, overcast weather, especially during late spring. There is a short rainy season, lasting usually from November to March, and arid Mediterranean summers. The combination of older homes, industry, and weather create a prime growing condition for mold. Because mold is prevalent in nature, acting as a decomposer, it is impossible for any home to be completely mold free. However, active mold growth in your living environment, and within the walls of your home, can be detrimental to the health and wellbeing of your family.
The only way to know for sure if you have a mold contamination in your home is through inspection and testing. Indoor-Restore provides certified inspectors, and labs, to provide you with the most accurate information possible. We can provide testing for mold, radon, bacteria, water, etc. If a contamination is present that could affect your health we can offer solutions, and remediation recommendations for mold.
We use fully certified and accredited, third party laboratories for our testing, and provide you with legal documentation of the findings. Our certified consultants will go over your report with you, and will be able to let you know if your living environment is toxic, or healthy.
Mold contamination is often unseen, and is most commonly associated with allergic reactions (congestion, scratchy throat, respiratory issues, etc.), which are especially noticeable when in your home, or office, and can lead to more serious health issues. If there has been any untreated water damage to your home, or office, there is a good chance that mold could be growing at an exacerbated pace. If your home is old, and lacking in insulation or proper protection from the elements, mold could be growing unnoticed inside your walls, attic, and even your crawlspace.
